Quote

"My father's brother, but no more like my fatherThan I to Hercules."

I enjoyed this quote because it really shows the intense hatred Hamlet has towards Claudius. He absolutely loved his father and basically worshiped him. He saw him as a god and thinks Claudius is completely inferior. Hamlet is disgusted by the fact that his father's brother is sleeping with his mother. It is obviously incest and there is a true anger building up inside of him which causes him to lash out at the end of the play. In the quote he tells us that even though the new king is directly related to his father, he is not at all alike him. Then he says he is just as much as alike to his father as Hamlet is to Hercules, which is obviously a significant difference.

Greatest advice in life?

I'm going to have to agree with the majority and say the greatest advice that Polonius gives Laertes is "to thine own self true". I was always taught to be myself which relates to the advice. Being true to yourself is one of the most important traits a person has. No matter what life throws at you, you believe and stay true. With everything I am faced with today, I use the advice one of my coaches gave me at a young age, "don't think, react." This is extremely helpful becuase your decisions start to become natural.

My Favorite Film Version

Out of the three movies we watched during class, I found the second film to be my favorite. I thought Kenneth Branagh portrayed Hamlet very well in it. For example, he showed much enthusiasm when reciting Hamlet's soliloquy and did so perfectly. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCBVmiVkzTM) The movie had a excellent cast all the way around. This is the version which we are currently watching in class and it is really catching my attention. I look foward to seeing how the rest of the play unfolds.
